Describing Chittagong Port as the heart of Bangladesh’s economy, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has stressed on connecting this heart with its neighbors.

Highlighting the importance of Chittagong Port, he said, if this heart is weak – no doctor can make it better. Therefore, it has to be made world-class. This heart has to be connected with our neighbors. For this, I have talked about Nepal and the seven northeastern states of India (Seven Sisters). If they join it, they will benefit, we will also be. Those who do not join, they will lag behind.

He made these remarks while briefing the Chief Advisor about the port’s capacity at the New Mooring Container Terminal of the Chittagong Port on Wednesday as the first program of his visit to Chittagong.

Dr. Yunus said that the interim government has taken various initiatives by inviting world-renowned port management companies to upgrade the Chittagong Port to an international standard port.

He said, “If we want to change the economy of Bangladesh, Chittagong Port is our hope. There is no alternative without it.”

Professor Yunus said, “The world has progressed a lot, and we have fallen far behind. No one pays attention. That is why I am pressing for change. I have said that the responsibility of managing the port should be handed over to the world’s top operators. I hope that everyone will understand one day.
