Men and women will have equal opportunities in digital transformation, said Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

He said that the interim government, in keeping with the spirit of the July Uprising, is committed to ensuring equal opportunities and rights for men and women in all aspects of digital transformation.

Dr. Yunus said that equal participation of men and women in digital transformation, including the use of telecommunications services and information technology, is a prerequisite for building a discrimination-free and modern society.

The Chief Adviser said these things in a message given on Friday on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (May 17). This time the theme of the day is ‘Gender Equality in Digital Transformation’.

The Chief Advisor said in his message that the interim government is very sincere in the development of the country’s telecommunications and information technology sector.

Stating that transparency and accountability have been ensured in all activities of the information technology sector, he said that an initiative has been taken to create a digital service center ‘Nagorik Seva’ to facilitate the people’s access to government services and reduce harassment. Various information technology services are being launched through Union Citizen Service Centers across the country.

The Chief Advisor said, ‘Initiatives have been taken to provide special freelancing training for women entrepreneurs and Shi-STEM training for girl students. Bangladesh is going to be connected to a satellite-based high-speed internet network, which is an important milestone in ensuring uninterrupted internet services across the country, including in remote and inaccessible areas.

The Chief Advisor called on everyone to work together to ensure world-class telecommunications and information technology services for the people, saying, “I firmly believe that with the collective efforts of everyone, an inclusive, progressive and equality-based Bangladesh will be built, and digital equality will be ensured.”
