All parties support chief advisor: Press Secretary

In the suddenly heated political context, the chief advisor to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, held separate meetings with BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP). After these meetings, at around 10:15 pm on Saturday, the chief advisor’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, said that all parties have expressed their support for the chief advisor.

The three parties participating in the meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital presented their positions on the country’s current political instability, election timeline, reform process and judiciary. In the meeting, Dr. Yunus reiterated the proposal to hold elections between December and June, the press secretary said.

Shafiqul Alam said that the parties have confidence in the chief advisor. No one has demanded his resignation. Rather, they have indicated their readiness to provide him with the necessary support and time.

He also said that the top leaders of the parties present at the meeting promised to play a positive role in organizing the elections, transparency of the judicial process and political reforms.

A journalist at the briefing wanted to know that the three parties had asked for a specific roadmap. When will they actually get this specific roadmap from the government?

In response, the press secretary said, Professor Yunus has repeatedly said that the elections will be held between December and June. … This June, 30, is a specific date. He says that he will not go beyond it. He is a man of his word.

Earlier, a four-member BNP delegation met with the chief advisor. Four BNP leaders entered the state guest house Jamuna at around 7:30 pm on Saturday. It was led by standing committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

The others in the delegation are BNP standing committee members Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salah Uddin Ahmed.

Meanwhile, a two-member delegation of Jamaat was present during the meeting with the Chief Advisor. They are Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.

In addition, the Chief Advisor is also meeting with four members led by National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam. The other members are the party’s main organizer (south) Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adeeb, senior joint member secretary Tasneem Zara.
