Narayanganj Correspondent //

Former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy has been granted a two-day remand in a murder case. The court of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Nur Mohsin issued this order on Sunday afternoon after hearing the lawyers of both sides. However, Ivy’s lawyer claims that they were not given time for the hearing. The remand grant is discriminatory.

According to court sources, rickshaw puller Minarul was killed during a student-public movement in Siddhirganj of the district. A murder case was registered in the Siddhirganj police station in this incident. The police have applied for a seven-day remand for Selina Hayat Ivy to be questioned.

Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy is imprisoned in Kashimpur Women’s Jail in Gazipur. She was presented in court virtually on Sunday afternoon. Her lawyer Awlad Hossain, leaving the court, said that they were not given the opportunity to be heard in court. Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, who was arrested and remanded on charges of murder, also claimed that Minarul died in a road accident.

The lawyer said that the case statement states that accused number 2 Shamim Osman shot and killed Minarul. According to the police complaint, Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy is not an accused here. 12 accused have been arrested in this case. All of them have been remanded for two to five days. None of them has said that Ivy was involved in this murder. He also mentioned that Ivy’s remand was granted in a completely discriminatory manner.

In response to this incident, Narayanganj civil rights activist lawyer Mahbubur Rahman Masum said that Ivy fought against the hostage situation of the people of Narayanganj through Shamim Osman even after being in the government party for 16 years. He fought against all the murders including Twki, Bhulu, Mithu. Even while in power, he fought against the government, against a misrule; How can such an intentional case be filed against her there?

The state’s lawyer, acting public prosecutor (PP) of the District Judge Court, AKM Omar Faruk Nayan, said that during the mass movement, students and the public were attacked on the orders of leaders like Shamim Osman-Ivy in Narayanganj. To know detailed information about these matters, it was necessary to take Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy on remand. The police applied for her seven-day remand based on that need. The court granted a two-day remand.
