A Bangladeshi youth named Shafiqul Islam was killed in BSF firing at the Doarabazar upazila border of Sunamganj district.
The incident took place at around 1 am today (July 12) in the Bhangapara border area of the upazila.
The deceased youth Shafiqul is the son of Kitab Ali of Bhangapara village of Lakshipur union of the upazila.
Doarabazar police station OC Zahidul Haque said that a group of 6/7 people including Shafiqul Islam went to smuggle cows from India early on Saturday night. At one point during the exchange of words with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), Shafiqul Islam was seriously injured when the smugglers opened fire on him. Later, his fellow smugglers rescued him and took him to the Doarabazar Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
