No place to bury in Gaza amid death march

International Desk //

For more than 22 months, Palestinians have been living in the shadow of an inevitable death. The number of bodies is increasing every day.

In hospital corridors, on school balconies, under rubble, on the streets and even in home yards, there are only bodies and bodies. But there is no place to bury them. As the number of deaths increases, the grave crisis is increasing in the valley. AP, Al Jazeera.

On Monday, the Gaza Health Ministry said that the death toll since the war began on October 7, 2023 has exceeded 58,000. Another 139,000 people have been injured. In addition, the ministry said that 10,000 people are still buried under collapsed buildings.

However, earlier on July 6, Med-Archive, citing the independent research organization Palestine Center for Policy and Survey Research, reported that about 84,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip in 15 months. More than half of these horrific deaths were women, children and the elderly.

According to the survey, about 75,200 of the dead were directly victims of violence. And 8,540 died of starvation.

The report said that the survey was conducted based on real situations and interviews with people, not official data from the Gaza Health Ministry.

Because the official data only includes those who died whose bodies reached hospitals. The organization also said that many people are still buried under the rubble. It was not possible to include three important areas in the survey – Gaza City, the Northern Areas and Rafah – because Israeli attacks and forced evictions were still ongoing there. However, many refugees who fled those areas participated in the survey. Although the survey was completed six months ago, experts say that its results are still very significant.

The situation has become even more dire in the past few months. More than 7,500 Palestinians have been killed since mid-March alone. Even the helpless residents of Gaza are losing their lives while trying to receive humanitarian aid.

UN spokesman Thamin al-Khetan said at a press conference on Tuesday that 875 Palestinians have been killed in the aid-related violence.

In addition, the barbaric forces are also continuing their brutal attacks on water distribution centers. The number of deaths in attacks on water distribution centers since the start of the war has exceeded 700, according to the Gaza government information office.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said that children are suffering from malnutrition as the situation in Gaza is getting worse. The agency said that one in 10 people is currently suffering from malnutrition.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have threatened to forcibly evict residents of at least 16 areas in the northern Gaza Strip. An army spokesman said on Tuesday that those still staying in certain neighborhoods in Gaza City and Jabalia should immediately move to al-Mawasi in the south. Meanwhile, officials from more than 30 countries are meeting for two days in the Colombian capital Bogota to discuss legal and diplomatic steps to end the war in Gaza and the illegal occupation of the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday.
