Four people were killed in clashes around a rally of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. Police and journalists were reported to have been injured in the incident.

The casualties occurred during clashes in the district town on Wednesday (July 16).

The deceased are Deepto Saha (25), son of Santosh Saha, a resident of Udayan Road in Gopalganj city, Ramzan Kazi (18) of Kotalipara, Sohel Molla (41) of Tungipara and Emon (24) of Bherar Bazar area of Sadar upazila.

The information about the deaths was confirmed by Jibitesh Biswas, superintendent of the 250-bed General Hospital in Gopalganj. He said that 9 more people were brought to the hospital with bullet injuries. Their surgeries are underway.

Meanwhile, the interim government has imposed a curfew in Gopalganj to control the situation after widespread clashes and attacks centered around a rally of the National Citizens Party (NCP).

This was announced in a message sent by the Press Wing on Wednesday evening.

The message said that a curfew has been imposed from 8 pm today, Wednesday, to 6 pm the next day (Thursday).

According to district administration sources, this strict step has been taken to ensure public safety in view of the recent unrest and clashes in various parts of the district. During the curfew, the movement of people will be limited and no one will be able to go out except for special needs. Law enforcement agencies will be on the ground and monitor the situation.

Earlier, an attack was carried out on an NCP convoy on its way back from a meeting in Gopalganj. It is reported that the workers of the banned Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League carried out the attack. At that time, Gopalganj turned into a battlefield. At that time, police and army vehicles were also attacked.
