No one else can use the boat symbol: EC Secretary

Dhaka //

Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that the boat symbol will be reserved in the schedule of the election conduct rules. However, no one else can use it.

He gave this information after an informal meeting of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners on Wednesday.

In the afternoon, the secretary said at the Election Building, “Although the boat is in the list of symbols, the boat symbol of the Awami League, whose registration was suspended, has been removed from the Supplementary Platform website to avoid confusion.” He claimed that there is no pressure on the Election Commission. The commission felt that it would be better to remove it.

The Election Commission suspended the registration of the Awami League on May 12 this year. On Wednesday morning, the date of receipt of the Awami League’s registration, the symbol and the name of the symbol were deleted from the EC website.

Regarding the retention of the boat symbol, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud had earlier said, “The symbol is never banned. Even if the party is dissolved, the symbol will remain with the EC; it will be allocated in the name of someone else again.” We will not remove the symbol from the list.

The secretary said that in light of the notification issued to return the registration along with the symbol of Jamaat-e-Islami, the name and symbol have been added to the website.

In response to a question, Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that Shapla has not been included in the list yet.
