Plane crashes in Uttara, death toll rises to 20

The death toll in the crash of an Air Force training plane into a building of Milestone School and College in Diyabari, Uttara, has risen to 20. 171 people have been injured and burned.

The ISPR said this in a statement on Monday evening. The ISPR also reported the number of injured people admitted to various hospitals.

1. Kuwait Friendship Hospital: 8 injured, no deaths

2. National Burn Institute: 70 injured, 2 deaths

3. Dhaka Medical College: 3 injured, 1 death

4. CMH-Dhaka: 17 injured, 12 deaths

5. Kurmitola General Hospital: 1 injured, 2 deaths

6. Lubna General Hospital and Cardiac Center, Uttara: 11 injured, 2 deaths

7. Uttara Modern Hospital: 60 injured, 1 death

8. Uttara Crescent Hospital: 1 injured, no deaths.

A total of 171 people are being treated for injuries in these eight hospitals. 20 people have died.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Air Force’s ‘F-7 BGI’ training aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff at 1:06 pm on Monday.

The aircraft caught fire immediately after crashing into an academic building of the school. Smoke could be seen rising from a long distance. Eight units of the fire service rushed to the spot to douse the fire in the burning aircraft.

Shah Bulbul, Public Relations Officer of Milestone School and College, said that the aircraft crashed into the gate of a building. It was an academic building. Classes of school children were going on there. Many people were burnt in the fire.

Meanwhile, a day of national mourning has been declared tomorrow, Tuesday, in the wake of the plane crash and casualties. The national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions and educational institutions of the country. In addition, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government and private buildings and Bangladeshi missions abroad.

Special prayers will be organized in all religious places of worship in the country for the injured and killed.
