Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has ordered to prepare a list of those killed in attacks by Chhatra League and other Awami League organizations and by state forces on the orders of the then government in the 15 years preceding the mass uprising of students and the public on July 24.
On Thursday afternoon, Mohammad Barkat Ullah, father of BUET student Abrar Fahad, younger brother Abrar Fayyaz and uncle Mohammad Mofazzal Hossain, met with the chief advisor at the state guest house Jamuna.
In the meeting with the chief advisor, the family of martyr Abrar Fahad requested to prepare a list of those killed in attacks by party terrorists of Awami League and its organizations before the mass uprising of July 24 and investigate each incident.
At this time, Mohammad Barkat Ullah requested the chief advisor to take initiative on behalf of the government to expedite the trial of the Abrar Fahad murder case.
Mohammad Barkat Ullah said, ‘He was brutally beaten to death by terrorists because he spoke for the country. He spoke for the country’s interest, against the unequal distribution of water.’
Abrar Fahad’s father also said, ‘His mother still cries for her son. No other mother should suffer the pain of losing a child, no other mother should be left empty-handed.’
He also said that the local people have been demanding the construction of a bridge over the Gorai River in Kushtia for a long time. Mohammad Barkat Ullah requested the chief advisor to take initiative to build a bridge there, stating that about 30,000 people are suffering due to the lack of a bridge.
Abrar Fayyaz, a third-year student of BUET, said, ‘Our educational institutions are still not student-friendly. There is a shortage of labs, equipment and other facilities required for studies. We have high expectations from the interim government. We want this government to take steps to make educational institutions student-friendly.’
He also requested the government to take strict action to stop ragging in BUET.
Abrar Fayyaz said, ‘This is not the first incident of harassment in BUET. It has happened before. It is necessary to investigate and judge the incidents that happened before.’
The chief advisor said, ‘The incident of brutally beating Abrar Fahad stunned the entire nation. A fair trial will be completed in this incident. Before the July 24th mass uprising, a list of those killed in the attacks by the Awami League and its organization’s party terrorists will be investigated and each incident will be investigated. In addition, investigation work is underway on the killings that were committed using state forces on the orders of the then government. The government has already taken action.’
He expressed his opinion.
