Dhaka //
BNP standing committee member and former state minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that there are some circles who do not want democratic elections in Bangladesh. They are trying to create various problems by raising issues regarding the ongoing events.
He said this in an interview with journalists after Friday afternoon prayers when he went to visit the family members of the child martyr Saria Akhter who was killed in the milestone tragedy in the capital’s Turag Nayanagar area.
In his speech, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that some are trying to create fear about the elections. However, we think that elections were held in Bangladesh even in worse conditions. So this has nothing to do with the elections.
He said that we BNP believe that we are heading towards an election after overcoming all such problems. We hope that the elections will be held in February.
Regarding the chaotic situation surrounding the Secretariat siege and the Milestone incident, Tuku said, “The incidents that have been happening for a few days are planned – it shows who is doing these things.”
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said, “The later the election, the easier it will be for them to fish in the muddy water.” In his speech, he expressed his condolences to the family members of the martyrs and injured in the Milestone tragedy and said, “The flowers that have gone will not return. However, I pray to Allah that Allah will keep them well. Everyone should take care that such incidents do not happen in the future.”
