The government has not given any instructions to deploy the army in the upcoming student parliament elections in universities. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said this in a press release on Thursday.
It said, ‘Recently, various news regarding the deployment of the Bangladesh Army in universities focusing on the upcoming central student parliament elections is being circulated through various media and social media, which has come to the attention of the army. In this regard, it is being informed that the government has not given any instructions to the Bangladesh Army to perform its duties in these elections. There is no opportunity to be involved in any such duties in the future.’
The notification said, ‘The Bangladesh Army believes that the upcoming central student parliament elections will be held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere with the direct cooperation of the existing law enforcement agencies and the overall supervision of the university administration.’
