After returning from Kanaighat, Md. Jamal Ahmed, Staff Reporter, Sylhet //
A mountain of allegations of negligence in investigation have been received against several police stations in Kanaighat, Sylhet. This has created a stir in the local area.
On-site investigation revealed that the victim’s father, Abdus Shukur (55), son of deceased Jamir Ali of Kalinagar village, Lakhiprasad Paschim Union, filed a written complaint with Kanaighat police station regarding the harassment of a 12-and-a-half-year-old minor girl. On September 1, he filed the written complaint with Kanaighat police station seeking redress. After that, the police’s manipulation began. The police kept wasting time by saying that they were going to investigate and going to investigate.
The harassment complaint letter remained in the file due to the anger of the officer-in-charge Md. Abdul Awal and the investigating officer SI Hafizur. However, the news of the complaint being filed at the police station reached the family of the scoundrel boy from the same area. Rubel Ahmed alias Marai (22), the scoundrel son of the deceased Mudris Ali, became angry. At one stage, on September 24, he attacked the victim’s family to forcibly take away the 12 and a half year old daughter. A commotion began. At the time of the incident, no one was at home except the victim’s elder brother Mustakim. In this situation, the victim’s brother Mustakim took the path of self-defense to protect the honor of his younger sister. A bloody clash began between the two sides. Finally, the clash was stopped by the locals, but the scoundrels did not stop running. Later, avoiding the harassment incident, the scoundrel’s sister Fahima Begum (23) filed a written complaint at the police station alleging beating. Mustakim was made the main accused in this. The police considered that complaint as an FIR. But mysteriously, the truth is that apart from Mustakim, the scoundrel’s sister Fahima Begum made his father and another brother accused. Even though they were not at the scene, they are now fugitive accused and are suffering from extreme insecurity. Rubel the scoundrel carried out this hellish rampage 23 days after the harassment complaint was filed. Until then, the police wasted time by giving various excuses and played the role of sheltering the scoundrels.
Meanwhile, after the FIR was filed at the police station, Rubel Gangra the scoundrel became more powerful. Keeping the police in his hands, he attacked Abdus Shukur’s semi-pakka tin shed house again at around 4:30 pm on September 29. The furniture of the house was vandalized in broad daylight and looting was carried out. One and a half ton of gold ornaments in the house, whose market value is approximately one and a half lakh taka, were looted. In addition, three lakh taka of cash from the buffalo sale in the house was looted and about thirty thousand taka of furniture was broken. The total loss and damage is about four lakh 80 thousand taka. Currently, the family is suffering from extreme insecurity. They have sought the intervention of higher authorities in this regard.
When I called the mobile phone of Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Awal to inquire about this, he said, I am in an urgent meeting and cut off the connection because I spoke later. However, SI Hafizur admitted the truth of receiving the complaint of harassment and said, I went to Chuthi, when I came to hear this incident happened. At this time, he expressed regret over the matter and said, I am in talks with the plaintiff about the matter, let’s see what can be done? When we tried to talk to SI Shah Alam on the phone about this, no comment was received as his phone was not receiving.
Meanwhile, when we talked to the victim’s family, they said in tearful voices, if the police had taken legal action in time, the scoundrels would not have had this courage. On the contrary, those scoundrels, terrorist looters, are coming to our house and attacking us in our absence. We want a fair trial. At this time, he sought the intervention of the higher authorities of the police.
