Bangladesh will not go to India to play the World Cup: Sports Advisor

Sports Reporter //

Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul said that the government has taken the decision not to go to India to play the World Cup. They are adamant on that position. The security concerns due to which they decided not to go to India have not changed.

The Bangladesh cricket team does not want to go to India to play the T20 World Cup due to security concerns. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had requested the ICC to play in Sri Lanka as an alternative venue. The ICC could not melt the ice despite repeated discussions with the BCB.

Yesterday (Wednesday) in the evening of Bangladesh time, the ICC held a virtual meeting. Representatives of all the full member countries of the ICC were present there. Several top officials of the ICC were also present in the meeting. After that meeting, the Bangladesh team was given one day to inform about its decision to play the World Cup.

Accordingly, the Bangladesh team had to inform before this evening whether they were willing to go to India to play the World Cup. If Bangladesh does not want to go to India to play the World Cup, then the ICC has said that it will give Scotland the opportunity to play the World Cup instead of Bangladesh.

So this afternoon, Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul held a meeting with cricketers and officials. Talking to the media after the meeting, the Youth and Sports Advisor said that there is no chance to change the decision not to play the T20 World Cup in India. Asif Nazrul also mentioned that the ICC did not do justice by not requesting Bangladesh to transfer the venue.

The Sports Advisor said that the decision to go to India to play the World Cup was taken by the government. They are adamant on that position. The security concerns due to which they decided not to go to India have also not changed.

He also said, naturally, we all wanted to be able to play the T20 World Cup. But the security risk that we face in playing in India has not changed. The fear of our security risk has not been created from any airy analysis or idea. It has been from a real incident.

After Asif Nazrul, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul faced the media. He also said that they still want to play the World Cup matches in Sri Lanka. They will continue to fight for this.
