The government has sent three officers of the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP) and one officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) on compulsory retirement.
On Monday, the senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs by order of the President. In separate notification signed by Mohammad Abdul Momen, these four police officers were informed about compulsory retirement.
The officers sent on compulsory retirement are Police Headquarters Additional Inspector General Khandkar Lutful Kabir, Tourist Police Additional Inspector General Mir Rezaul Alam, Noakhali Police Training Center Additional Inspector General Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Deputy Inspector General (on duty) Imam Hossain.
According to the notification, they were retired from government service in the public interest as per the provisions of Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018). They will get retirement benefits as per rules.
Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 in the face of the student movement, several senior police officers have been sent to retire.
Earlier on August 27 Additional Inspector General of Police Headquarters Krishna Pad Roy, Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) (Deputy Inspector General Rank) Md. Mozammel Haque and KMP Additional Commissioner (Additional Deputy Inspector General) Sardar Rakibul Islam were sent on compulsory retirement. On August 22, Additional Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ali Mia, Additional Inspector General of Industrial Area Police. Mahabubur Rahman and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Headquarters Jaydev Kumar Bhadra were sent on retirement. It may be noted that on August 13, Mohammad Ali Miah was attached to the police headquarters from the CID.
August 21 Additional Inspector General of Police. Atiqul Islam, Head Office Deputy Inspector General (Additional Inspector General-Supernumerary) Md. Anwar Hossain and Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Asaduzzaman (Deputy Inspector General rank) was sent on retirement.
Earlier, in another notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 13, Additional Inspector General of Police (SB-Special Branch) Monirul Islam was transferred from SB to the Directorate of Police. And Habibur Rahman was transferred from the post of DMP Commissioner on August 7 and attached to the Directorate of Police. Both of them were retired from service.
Abu Saeed (22) was shot dead by the police at Park Mor in front of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on July 16 at noon during the nationwide agitation demanding quota reforms in government jobs. He was one of the coordinators of Begum Rokeya University quota reform movement.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman and Deputy Inspector General of Police Rangpur Range. Abdul Baten was sent into compulsory retirement. The order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs in two separate notifications on August 13.
