Representative image. Nine people have died from Dengue across the country in the last 24 hours. During the same period, another 1,571 patients were admitted to hospitals.

This information was provided in a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday (September 8).

With this, the total death toll from Dengue this year has reached 130, while the total number of confirmed cases stands at 45,394.

Earlier, four deaths were reported yesterday (September 7). The DGHS stated that among the newly admitted Dengue patients, 139 were from the Dhaka North City Corporation area, 143 from the South City Corporation, and 225 from the Dhaka Division (outside the two city corporations).

Additionally, patients were admitted to hospitals with Dengue in the following divisions: Barishal (153), Chattogram (198), Khulna (235), Mymensingh (81), Rangpur (36), Rajshahi (99), and Sylhet (5).

Meanwhile, a three-month-long special cleanliness and public awareness campaign to prevent Dengue is set to begin this coming Saturday (September 12), inaugurated by the Prime Minister. Considering the next three months a high-risk period for the Dengue outbreak, the Prime Minister has urged the citizens to actively participate in this program.

The Prime Minister gave these directives during a meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (September 8) regarding measures to prevent Dengue.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that controlling Dengue requires prioritizing cleanliness and public awareness, rather than relying solely on mosquito eradication activities. To achieve this, coordinated field-level operations must be conducted by involving local administrations, voluntary organizations, and students.
