Representative image. The body of a seven-year-old girl named Mariyam Bushra was recovered in Madarganj, Jamalpur, three days after she went missing. The homeowner, Jaminur Rahman (32), has been arrested in connection with the incident.
On Sunday, the arrested Jaminur confessed in the Jamalpur court to raping and murdering the child and subsequently burying her body under the floor.
The deceased, Mariyam Bushra, was the daughter of Bahadur Mondal from Char Lotabor village in the upazila. She was a first-grade student at Sidhuli Government Primary School.
According to police and local sources, young Mariyam went to Sidhuli Government Primary School at 8:30 AM on Thursday. Around 10:30 AM, her mother, Babita Begum, went to the school but could not find her; after an unsuccessful search, she filed a General Diary (GD) at the Madarganj Police Station. On Saturday night, police received information that a child’s body was buried inside the home of Jaminur Rahman, located next to the school. Subsequently, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madarganj Police Station and police from the Shyamganj Kalibari Investigation Center rushed to the scene, dug up the floor of Jaminur’s house, and recovered the missing girl’s body.
Madarganj Police Station OC Snehashish Roy stated that upon being produced in court, the arrested Jaminur confessed to raping and murdering Mariyam. A murder case has been filed against Jaminur Rahman and his wife, Sabuja Begum, in connection with the incident.
