Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Acting Secretary General of the BNP and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, remarked that during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, people holding opposing political views or affiliations were denied the right to live a normal life.

He said, “We have emerged from a dark era. Those in the opposition—those who belonged to opposition parties—had no right to exist. They had no right to lead a decent life. There was no guarantee that if one stepped out of the house, they would return safely to sleep at night.”

He made these remarks on Sunday (September 13) afternoon at an event in Farhadnagar, Feni, organized by the platform ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ (We Are the BNP Family).

At the event, Rizvi handed over the keys to a new house to the family of the late Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid on behalf of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Rizvi alleged that to cement her grip on power, Sheikh Hasina did not hesitate to kill children, students, and even members of her own party. He further claimed that enforced disappearances and killings had plagued the country for years.

He added, “In July and August of 2024, people’s blood was spilled by the police and RAB across various parts of the country. The late Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid was a victim of that very brutality.”

Rizvi stated, “Harunur Rashid was killed by police gunfire. It is our responsibility to stand by his family. Today, under the directive of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, the keys to a new house have been handed over to his family.”

Presided over by District BNP Convener Sheikh Farid Bahar and moderated by Member Secretary Alal Uddin Alal, the event was addressed by Member of Parliament Rafiqul Alam Majnu; Feni-2 MP Professor Zainal Abedin; MP Engineer Ashraf Uddin; Reserved Seat MP Rehana Akter Ranu; BNP National Executive Committee Assistant Secretary (Village Government Affairs) Belal Ahmed; and ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ Member Secretary Agriculturist Mokshedul Momin Mithun, among others.

Later, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited the grave of the late Harunur Rashid and inspected his home. Harunur Rashid’s wife, Zohra Akter; daughters, Majeda Akter and Aklima Akter; and son, Tauhidul Islam, were present on the occasion. Upon receiving the new house, they expressed their gratitude to the head of government, Tarique Rahman, and demanded a speedy trial for the police officer responsible for the killing.

The foundation stone for the new house for Harunur Rashid’s family was laid on April 12, 2026.

Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid was killed in police gunfire on December 4, 2013, during a procession supporting a *hartal* (general strike) on Shahid Shahidullah Kaiser Road in Feni town.
