Although the Bangladesh ‘A’ team lost the Test series during their tour of South Africa, they achieved success in the ODI format. The visiting team won the series 1-0 by defeating the hosts by 5 wickets in the third ODI held in Potchefstroom.
With the first two matches of the three-game series abandoned due to rain, the final match became the series decider. Bangladesh ‘A’ chased down the target of 183 runs set by South Africa in 33 overs, with 5 wickets in hand.
Spinners Rishad Hossain and Alis Islam laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s victory. Rishad claimed 4 wickets for 45 runs, while Alis took 3 for 35. Under the pressure of their spin bowling, no South African batter—aside from Marques Ackerman (54) and Imran Manack (43)—could play a significant innings.
In reply, Bangladesh took control of the match right from the opening partnership. Saif Hassan and Mohammad Naim put together 92 runs. Saif scored 61 off 53 balls, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes, while Naim contributed 60 off 77 balls, featuring 6 fours and a six.
Despite losing four more wickets after that partnership was broken, Bangladesh faced no trouble securing the win given the modest target. South Africa’s Kyle Simmonds took 3 wickets.
