Interim government chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized on national unity to achieve the necessary reforms aimed at repairing the state.
On Tuesday (September 3), he stressed the importance of this matter in an exchange meeting with the editors of the country’s top 20 newspapers at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna.
Later, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed about the meeting at the Foreign Service Academy. Dr. Quoting Yunus, he said, the chief adviser said the mass uprising of the students had brought a great opportunity to repair the state. This opportunity should be used to take Bangladesh to a new peak. But for this, national unity is very necessary.
The press secretary of the Chief Adviser said that during the discussion with the political parties, they told the Chief Adviser that the interim government should remain for a reasonable time. How much time is this logical time? Yunus wants to know from the editors. He also asked for advice on what basic work should be done by the government during this period.
Highlighting the proposals given by the editors, Shafiqul Alam said, various things have come up, such as at least 2 years can be given. Many said 2 to 3 years. Others advocated giving as much time as needed to complete the necessary reforms.
He said, however, most of the people said about the term of the interim government, the reform works or the work plan of the interim government will actually determine how long the term of this government will be.
Highlighting the suggestions from the editors in the meeting, the press secretary also said that constitution amendment, rewriting, law commission, constitution commission, media commission and police commission have been formed. How to use the police more effectively and how to reform the Election Commission came up.
Besides, the chief adviser’s press secretary said that the editors suggested the reorganization of the election commission. Requesting to write about the mistakes of the interim government.
