Four more people have died due to ongoing floods in the country. As a result, the death toll has increased to 71 in 11 flood affected districts.
KM Ali Reza, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, gave this information at a press conference on the ongoing flood situation at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 3). As of Monday, the death toll from the floods was 67.
The additional secretary said, “The number of people who died in the flood is 71 people. Among them 45 men, 7 women and 19 children. 19 died in Comilla, 28 in Feni, 6 in Chittagong, 1 in Khagrachari, 11 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Laxmipur, 3 in Cox’s Bazar and 1 in Moulvibazar. Still one is missing in Moulvibazar.
He said, ‘The flood situation in Chittagong, Khagrachari, Habiganj, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria and Cox’s Bazar districts is completely normal. The flood situation in Moulvibazar has improved and the flood situation in Feni, Comilla, Noakhali and Laxmipur districts is improving. Still 5 lakh 82 thousand 155 families are stuck with water. And the total number of affected people is 50 lakh 24 thousand 202 people.
He said that people are returning home from shelters as the overall flood situation has improved. There are still 2 lakh 85 thousand 996 people and 31 thousand 203 cattle in 3 thousand 612 shelters.
The additional secretary said that the distribution of relief from all levels, including government and private, is continuing in the flood-affected areas.
