The Democratic Jukta Front has called upon the nation to build a united resistance immediately to counter anti-liberation forces. Leaders stated that Jamaat-Shibir—enemies of independence—have shown utter disrespect to the three million martyrs and the two hundred thousand women who lost their honor during the Liberation War by displaying photographs of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Islami Chhatra Sangha leader Abdul Malek in the DAKSU museum. This incident serves as a calculated political message reflecting the vengeful intent of war criminals against the country’s independence. It is imperative to organize a resistance against this, grounded in the spirit of the Liberation War.

This call was made on Thursday during a meeting of the Democratic Jukta Front’s central steering committee at the CPB office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. Presided over by Jukta Front Coordinator and CPB General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan, the meeting was attended by Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan, Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Dr. Mushtaq Hossain, Professor Abdus Sattar, Moshrefa Mishu, Masud Rana, Harunar Rashid Bhuiyan, Abdul Ali, Rajat Huda, Syed Harun-or-Rashid, Ragib Ahsan Munna, Nikhil Das, Shahidul Islam Sabuj, and Mohiuddin Chowdhury Liton, among others.

The leaders stated that since August 5, 2024, war criminals and the fanatical communal group Jamaat-Shibir—along with their associates—have declared war against the country’s Language Movement, independence, history, and heritage. With the backing of the interim government, they mobilized mobs to destroy over a thousand Liberation War memorials, including the historic residence at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 and the monument dedicated to the Mujibnagar Provisional Government. They had also demanded changes to the national anthem and national flag. All Liberation War-related sculptures vandalized over the past two years must be reconstructed under government initiative. Furthermore, the miscreants involved in the vandalism must be identified through an investigation and brought to justice. At the meeting, dissatisfaction was expressed regarding the government’s failure to halt the rising death toll from measles and dengue; demands were made for the immediate destruction of dengue breeding grounds and the initiation of free, on-the-spot testing in slums and densely populated areas using necessary equipment. Leaders also voiced outrage over the decision to transfer 44 factories to private ownership and the rampant plunder within the banking sector, insisting that the government and Bangladesh Bank take immediate action to repatriate laundered funds, recover defaulted loans, and penalize those responsible for money laundering and loan defaults.

Furthermore, the meeting condemned and protested the move to merely rename the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) while retaining its existing structure, rather than disbanding the force.

The meeting announced a program of protest rallies and the submission of memoranda to the Prime Minister and the Health Minister on September 24 to protest the government’s failure to curb deaths caused by measles and dengue. Additionally, the ‘Gonotantrik Juktofront’ (Democratic United Front) will organize protests and submit memoranda to the Governor in front of Bangladesh Bank on September 29 to protest failures in controlling banking sector corruption, money laundering, and loan defaults; they will also hold protest rallies and submit memoranda to the Chief Election Commissioner on October 14, demanding the repeal of anti-public provisions in local government election policies.
