Five people have died from dengue across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 176. Additionally, 1,484 people were hospitalized with dengue during this period.

These figures were released yesterday, Thursday, in the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular report on dengue.

The DGHS reported that four people died from dengue in the Dhaka North City Corporation area alone over the past day. Meanwhile, one person died from the disease in the Rangpur division during the same period. On the other hand, the highest number of dengue patients (252) were admitted to hospitals in the Khulna division over the last 24 hours.

During this period, hospital admissions included 227 people in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, 211 in Barishal division, 207 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 192 in Chattogram division, 190 in Dhaka division, 102 in Rajshahi division, 64 in Mymensingh division, 35 in Rangpur division, and 4 in Sylhet division.

According to DGHS data, 36 people died from dengue in the country this July, 43 in August, and 79 in the first 17 days of September. In total, 176 people have died from dengue in the country between January 1 and September 17 of this year.

Of these, 84 people died from dengue in the Dhaka division alone (including the two city corporations). During this period, deaths also occurred in other divisions: 32 in Khulna, 18 in Mymensingh, 16 in Chattogram, 13 in Barishal, 8 in Rajshahi, 4 in Rangpur, and one in Sylhet.
