The body of Ishiyat Shahriar Oprotim (13)—son of Dr. Nahida Begum, an Associate Professor in the Department of Bangla at Comilla University (CoU)—has been recovered. Police stated that he was killed in an attempt to snatch his mobile phone. A young man named Tuhin has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

Oprotim’s body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from the Lalmai Sananda Hill area, a wooded zone adjacent to the CoU campus.

Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station, confirmed the matter.

The deceased, Oprotim, was a seventh-grade student at the local Border Guard Public School. His father, KM Firoz Shahriar, is a businessman.

Earlier, around 3:30 PM on Friday, Oprotim had left home with friends to take photographs. He had been missing since then. Following the disappearance, his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, filed a General Diary (GD) at the Sadar Dakshin Police Station.

Oprotim’s mother, Dr. Nahida Begum, had announced her son’s disappearance via a Facebook post, making a desperate plea for his safe return.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the news of the body’s recovery, a large crowd—including CoU teachers and students—gathered at the scene. Law enforcement personnel collected several pieces of evidence from the location.

Monirul Haque Chowdhury, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sadar constituency, arrived at the scene around 2:45 PM. He instructed the police to swiftly apprehend those involved in the murder.

OC Rakibul Islam of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station said, “We are fairly certain that this murder was committed over a mobile phone.” The detained individual, Tuhin, is currently being interrogated. Arrangements are being made to send Oprotim’s body to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
