The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Chattogram-3 constituency. The operation was conducted around 1:30 AM on Monday at a residence (House No. 29, Road No. 43) in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area.
DB Chief and Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam stated that the raid was carried out based on a tip-off. During the operation, Mita—a former MP of the Awami League (a party whose activities are currently banned)—was arrested. He was subsequently taken to the DB office at Minto Road and is scheduled to be produced before the court today, Tuesday.
According to DB sources, multiple cases have been filed against him on charges of attacking students and the public in Sandwip, Chattogram, during the mass uprising.
Mita had won the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections as an Awami League candidate representing the Chattogram-3 constituency.
