An Assam Rifles soldier was killed and four others were injured in an attack by rebels in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, near the Myanmar border.
The ambush took place around 6:30 AM on Tuesday (September 29) while soldiers from the 21 Assam Rifles were patrolling an area where border fencing work was underway.
The soldier killed in the attack was 42-year-old Havildar Jangkhokai Kuki. The injured soldiers are currently undergoing treatment at a military hospital. Preliminary reports suggest that the NSCN (K-YA) or a similar rebel group may have carried out the attack.
Following the incident, security forces have launched a major operation in the area to crack down on the rebels. It is worth noting that the India-Myanmar border region in Changlang district has long been considered highly sensitive due to the frequent movement of various rebel groups.
