BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman’s wife Jobaida Rahman, her sister Shahina Khan and mother Iqbal Mand Banu have been ordered by the court to deposit 1 kg 670 grams of gold ornaments (gold chains, bracelets, rings).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain gave this order on Thursday in view of their lawyer’s application. All these ornaments were under the custody of Standard Chartered Bank Dhanmondi branch since 2007. The court canceled the bailout of Standard Chartered Bank and allowed it to operate in favor of customers.
Zobaida’s sister Shahina Khan’s lawyer Zakir Hossain Bhuia said there were two lockers of Standard Chartered Bank Dhanmondi branch in the name of Zobaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarek Rahman, her sister Shahina Khan and mother Iqbal Mand Banu. Their ornaments were kept there.
In 2007, two Standard Chartered Bank lockers at Dhanmondi police station’s GDMul were handed over by the court to the then sales team manager of the Dhanmondi branch, Abdullah Al Zaeed. We appeal to the court to open the lockers in favor of the account holders and operators as well as the customers. The court granted our petition.
According to the court order, on March 25, 2007, 1 kg 670 grams of ornaments were seized from lockers No. 36/23 and 36/24 of Standard Bank, Dhanmondi branch assigned to Zobaida Rahman, Zobaida’s sister Shahida Khan and their mother Iqbal Mand Banu in the name of GDMule at Dhanmondi police station in the capital. is done
Later on the same day, the seized jewelery was handed over to the then Sales Team Manager of Standard Chartered Bank, Dhanmondi branch, Abdullah Al Zaeed, by the court.
Subsequently, petitioner Shahina Khan, her mother Iqbal Mand Banu and sister Jobaidar applied to the court for an order to open the lockers allotted to them at the Standard Chartered Bank Dhanmondi branch. In this context, the investigating officer and Dhanmondi police station also filed reports several times on the order of the court. A review of the reports submitted by the Dhanmondi police station in the past shows that there is no other case related to the seized signs in the GDM. A review of the report also shows that the confiscated Alamat ornaments are deposited in the custody of the Standard Chartered Bank, Dhanmondi branch.
In the overall review, since there is no further case regarding the seized evidence. Since the petitioner has applied to open the same in favor of the said locker operators and since there is no objection by the State party, the liability of the seized signs to Abdulla Al Zaid, Sales Team Manager, Standard Chartered Bank Dhanmondi Branch, is cancelled.
Standard Chartered Bank Dhanmondi branch authorities have been directed to take measures in accordance with the rules to open joint lockers 36/23 and 36/24 in the Standard Chartered Bank, Dhanmondi branch in favor of the account holders and operators of those lockers, subject to no other court order.
