Bahubal (Habiganj) Representative //

In the Mirpur market of Bahubal upazila of Habiganj, two traders were accused of being tortured in a medieval manner due to the slander of a thief. Not only that, because the video images of the torture were spread on the social media Facebook, there is a storm of discussion and criticism. Finally, finding no other way, the market committee people shaved their heads and handed them over to the police as thieves.

Residents said that on October 6, Kutum Bari sweet shop in Mirpur market was stolen. In this incident, the next day on October 7 at 8 pm, market committee convener Motabbir Hossain arrested businessman Salim Mia and hotelier Sohan with his men and took them to a room in the market. They were locked there overnight and brutally tortured. The next day on October 8, at noon in the market, on the orders of Mutabbir Hossain, Bashar Uddin’s son Nanu Mia, Anu Uddin’s son Farid Mia, Arfan, Nimai Ulla’s son Harun, Al-Amin, Jewel, Samsu Mia and several others tied Salim and Sohan on the street. It is beaten like a cow with a stick. At one point their heads were shaved and paraded around the market. However, they did not stop. After taking them home again, Motabbir Hossain demanded ransom from Selim’s brother and Sohan’s father. After being detained for two days and tortured for non-payment of ransom, SI Manjur Hossain took the accused to the police station from the spot on October 9 and sent them to the court that afternoon with a framed case. Earlier, SI Manjur Hossain did not identify the two men after seeing the CCTV footage of the theft and when they expressed their reluctance to take them to the police station, Motabbir Hossain and his men were forced to take them to the police station under fire. A story of such barbaric torture has defeated even the Iyamme Jahiliyat. Meanwhile, the local residents are demanding justice for these torturers.

In this regard, the officer in charge of Bahubal police station said, I am not aware of the matter. However, the two thieves have been handed over to the Mirpur Bazar Committee Police. If they do so, action will be taken.
