Bangladesh plays ODIs best—everyone used to accept this even a few days ago. The achievements worth bragging about in Bangladeshi cricket have been achieved in 50-over cricket. That situation seems to have started to change. Bangladesh is not doing well in this edition either. The latest example of which is the series loss to Afghanistan. After that loss, Bangladesh has fallen behind the Afghans in the ICC ODI rankings as well.
The ICC updated the rankings as soon as the Bangladesh-Afghanistan series ended. Bangladesh and Afghanistan changed places there. The Afghans have moved up from 9 to 8, while Bangladesh has dropped from 8 to 9. However, in 2022, Afghanistan came to play the ODI series in Bangladesh from three places behind.
Before the start of the series, Bangladesh had 86 rating points. The Afghans had 84. After winning the three-match series 2-1, the Afghans now have 85 points. Bangladesh also has 85 points, but the Nazmuls are now 9th, trailing by a fraction.
However, in May this year, Afghanistan was 6 points behind Bangladesh. But the Afghans surpassed Bangladesh by winning three consecutive series against Ireland, South Africa and Bangladesh.
