Although the Bangladesh women’s team whitewashed the Ireland women’s team 3-0 in the ODI series, they could not maintain their momentum in the T20 series.

Ireland secured the series with a 47-run defeat in the second T20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today (December 7).

Chasing a modest target of 135, the Tigresses faced a batting disaster. Bangladesh’s top four batsmen returned to the field within 22 runs. Sharmin Akhter Supta and Swarna Akhter put on a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket but could not put the team back on track for victory. Sharmin scored 38 off 43 balls and Swarna scored 20 off 21 balls. No one else in the team failed to reach double figures.

Orla Prendergast took 3 wickets for Ireland in the bowling. Laura Delaney and Arlena Kelly took two wickets each.

Ireland won the toss and elected to bat and scored 34 runs in the powerplay. However, the controlled bowling of the Bangladeshi bowlers prevented the Irish from scoring a big score. The Irish innings was restricted to 134 runs with excellent bowling from Nahida Akhtar and Jahanara Alam.

Laura Delaney scored 35 runs off 25 balls. Orla Prendergast scored 32 runs. For Bangladesh, Nahida Akhtar took two wickets for 20 runs in four overs.
Despite losing two matches, Nigar Sultana Jyoti’s team will aim to end the series with a win in the final match.
