Four workers were killed and two others were seriously injured in a gas line explosion at Akij Venture Limited in Bahubale upazila of Habiganj district.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (December 31) at around 9 am while Akij Venture Limited was working on a gas line in the area adjacent to Dubaoi Bazar in the upazila. Two people named Mizan Gazi and Mahfuz Mia died on the spot after being burnt to death.

The deceased were Mizan Gazi (35), Mahfuz Mia (30), Riaz Mia (30) and Ibrahim (45). The injured were Russell (35) and Al Amin (24). It is learnt that all of them are residents of Chadpur district.

According to local sources, the contractor’s people worked on the gas line of a company named Akij Group Venture Ltd. During this time, due to carelessness, a gas line suddenly exploded, killing two people on the spot. Another person named Riaz Mia died on the way to the hospital after being rescued from the injured. Another person succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
