Information and Broadcasting Advisor Md. Nahid Islam said that the government will provide all-out support to enrich the film industry. He said this at the inauguration of the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival, initiated by the Rainbow Film Society, at the National Museum Auditorium in the capital on Saturday (January 11) afternoon.
Calling for highlighting the history and culture of Bangladesh’s struggle in the world, the advisor said that the Dhaka International Film Festival will serve as an important medium of cultural exchange. In addition, through this film festival, the new generation of Bangladesh will get an opportunity to gain an idea about international-standard films.
Mentioning the role of film in the development of Bangladesh’s art and culture, he said that film is not only a medium of entertainment; film is also an important regulator of social change.
Regarding the July Uprising, the advisor said that this uprising played an important role in establishing democracy in Bangladesh. During this time, he called on filmmakers to make films on the July Uprising.
The program, chaired by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed, was addressed by Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen and festival director Ahmed Mujtaba Jamal.
It is worth noting that 220 films from 75 countries of the world will be screened in this nine-day (January 11-19) international film festival. Out of these, 44 films are from Bangladesh.
