The second program of the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad (Bamsas) was held at the city’s traditional Sarada Hall on Friday.
Metropolitan University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Zahirul Haque spoke as the chief guest at the award ceremony and discussion held under the chairmanship of L. Prashant Kumar Singh, convener of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Council.
In his speech as the chief guest, he said that Manipuri literature is very old. Manipuris have been practicing literature since ancient times. Now is the time to research on the Manipuri language. There is also a need for research on literature by translating Manipuri literature.
Special guests present at the event included retired Additional Secretary, President of Dhaka-based Manipuri Organization Kongkham Neelmani Singha, former President of Sylhet Press Club Iqbal Siddiqui, former Head of the Department of Urology at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Professor Dr. Pramod Ranjan Singha, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Tripura L. Birmangal Singha and President of Manipuri Literary Society Assam L. Mangalemba Singha.
All the presidents and general secretaries who have served at different times since the establishment of Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad were honored with crests, uttariyas and gifts.
Among the honored presidents and general secretaries, BAMSAS’s lifeblood researcher, Fellow of Bangla Academy, poet AK Sheram, theater personality M Uttam Singha Ratan, poet Sheram Niranjan, and L. Rumita Sinha spoke. It is worth noting that the founding members of BAMSAS were honored at the first event of the golden jubilee.
At the beginning of the program, the poetry recitation session was held under the chairmanship of poet Rawshan Ara Bashi Khuthaibom and conducted by poet Ahaibam Anjur. Poet Hosne Ara Kamali, Head of the Department of Bengali, Madanmohan Government College, was present as the chief guest. Poet L. Mina Devi, who came from Agartala, was present as the special guest. About fifty poets in Bengali and Manipuri languages recited their poems in the poetry recitation.
Later, in the cultural program to celebrate the golden jubilee, conducted by KH Samendra Singh, chorus music was performed by BAMSAS child artists and beautiful Manipuri dance was performed by BAMSAS Kamalganj branch. BAMSAS Central General Secretary Poet Nambram Shankar delivered the welcome speech at the program.
