Moulvibazar, Staff Reporter //

A white rice fair has been held in Bazarkona of Moulvibazar for the past 700 years. People make various vows and cook white rice and take it to the shrine, and this rice is mixed with kheer and distributed throughout the day. Not only rice is distributed, but a huge fair is held on this occasion with various stalls.

Hazrat Shah Moin Uddin (RA) Shrine Motawalli Md. Azad Mia said that about 700 years ago, Hazrat Shah Moin Uddin (RA), one of the companions of 360 saints, arrived in Bajrakona of Manumukh Union of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. This Pir was endowed with miraculous qualities. People used to run to him in times of trouble. During that (700 years), a cow was slaughtered around his residence and a sirani was organized. During the Sirani, the owner of the cow, Garur Singh and Chamra, came and said that this cow was his and that it had been stolen. Pir Saheb, being a spiritual person, brought the cow back to its owner and told the villagers that from now on, all their Siranis would be bloodless without slaughtering anything. Since then, Sirani has been made here by mixing only plain rice with kheer.

Former Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman Mizan, a member of the Moulvibazar District BNP Organizing Committee, said that every year on the first Wednesday of Magh month, a holy Orus Mubarak and rice fair is organized around the shrine of Hazrat Shah Moin Uddin (RA), one of the companions of 360 Auliyas. Thousands of people come to visit.

Meanwhile, the Sirani ended yesterday on Wednesday, but the fair is still going on today. One of the features of this fair is that thousands of men and women bring small and large pots and pans filled with plain rice and kheer to the shrine and collect it in two large containers kept next to the shrine. Later, this is distributed among thousands of people in an orderly manner as Shirni.

Villagers Rahim Mia and Kamal Uddin said that they believe that eating this Shirni cures diseases and ailments. That is why they eat this Shirni and many also take it home.

Bazarkona Jame Mosque Vice President Suman Box Ansari said that if you make any good intention here, your intention is accepted. In continuation of this, people come here from far and wide. And it is done by the joint organization of the villagers. He said that no one has to ask anyone to bring rice for this rice fair. People just bring it. Every year, food for 15 to 20 thousand people is collected here. More than a hundred volunteers are engaged in distributing this Shirni.
