A team of Kamalganj Police Station in Moulvibazar has arrested 2 people with foreign cigarettes worth around Tk 2 lakh in a drive.
On Friday (January 10) afternoon, a team of Kamalganj Police Station conducted a drive and searched a private car on Kalenga to Munshibazar Road in the upazila and recovered illegally imported foreign cigarettes. During this, the police arrested two people named Shamim Ahmed (26) of Dhalia village in Kulaura upazila and Sumon Ahmed (40) of Amuli village.
Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Iftekhar Hossain said that a total of 40,000 cigarettes in 2,000 packets of foreign Njojh brand brought in by evading customs and a private car of Toyota brand were seized in a special drive by Kamalganj Police Station. The estimated market value of the seized cigarettes is around Tk 220,000. A case has been filed under the Special Powers Act against the two people arrested in this incident.
