The High Court Division of the Supreme Court has issued a three-month stay on the biennial election of Srimangal Press Club in Moulvibazar district.
At the same time, a show cause rule was issued for anti-constitutional activities and for declaring the election schedule within 4 weeks of the election commissioner of the Press Club, Srimangal Upazila Executive Officer, Upazila Social Service Officer in violation of the constitution of the Press Club.
On Tuesday, a double bench of Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury and K.O.M. Raseduzzaman of the Victory No. 1 Court of the High Court issued the stay order and rule.
The election was scheduled to be held today, Wednesday (January 15).
It is known that on January 1 of this year, after receiving information from the Srimangal Press Club, the Upazila Social Service Officer and the Election Commissioner of Srimangal Press Club prepared the final voter list of 27 journalists and announced the election schedule. In this, the Joint Secretary of Srimangal Press Club and Jugantar Srimangal Representative Syed Abu Jafar Salauddin objected to the decision of the Executive Council of the Press Club.
Later, he filed an application with the Upazila Social Service against the conspiracy of Paytara to elect a muscle power by violating various clauses of the Press Club’s constitution by bringing M. Idris Ali, who was expelled, as a member and canceling and suspending the membership of Srimangal Press Club President Bishwajyoti Chowdhury Bullet, Vice President Dipankar Bhattacharya Liton, members Subhash Das Tapan, Sultan Mahmud Rakib and other members. But the Social Service Officer did not approve the application.
Later, he filed a writ petition in the High Court against the order of the Social Service Officer, making the Senior Secretary, Ministry of Social Services, Srimangal Social Service Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Srimangal the respondents.
On Tuesday, in the High Court Division Bench, the Supreme Court Senior Lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Advocate Mridul Dutta and Deputy Attorney General Shamima Sultana Deepti, along with other Deputy Attorneys General, issued a rule to the respondents, suspending the order of the Social Service Officer and declaring the election schedule postponed for three months.
Meanwhile, the Upazila Administration, after receiving this order of the Honorable High Court, has announced the postponement of the election scheduled for tomorrow, January 15.
