Government not informed about security concerns over family members of Indian diplomats: Foreign Affairs Advisor

Diplomatic Correspondent //

The government has not been informed about any security concerns over family members of Indian diplomats from Bangladesh. And it is not clear whether any message is being sent by withdrawing the family members of Indian diplomats from Bangladesh.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain made this comment in response to questions from journalists at his office on Wednesday afternoon.

When asked about the withdrawal of family members of Indian diplomats from Bangladesh, Towhid Hossain said, there is no security concern, but I do not understand what the signal is at all. It is their own matter. They can ask their employees to go back. I have not found the reason for his statement. There is no such situation where the officials or their families are in danger. Nothing like this has happened so far. They may have a concern or they may want to send a message. But I have not actually found any reason in it. But if they want to take their families back, we have nothing to do.

The foreign affairs advisor said, overall, there has been no disruption in security so far. I don’t think there is more conflict than in past election periods. I don’t think there is a security situation that requires this step.

When asked whether the Indian embassy in Dhaka had expressed concerns about security in advance, Touhid Hossain said, “They have not informed us of any security concerns.”
