File photo. Concerns over the measles and pneumonia situation in Sylhet division have increased further. So far, 69 children and one nurse have died of measles and pneumonia. In the last 24 hours, 80 new patients have been admitted to hospitals and 4 more have been diagnosed with measles in lab tests. Currently, 297 patients are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals in the division.
According to the report of the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday (June 15) afternoon, a total of 322 people have been diagnosed with measles in Sylhet division since January 1 of this year. Among the infected, the highest number is 177 in Sunamganj, 105 in Sylhet, 24 in Habiganj and 16 in Moulvibazar. 2 rubella patients have also been identified among the infected in Habiganj.
In the last 24 hours, 80 new patients with suspected measles have been admitted to various hospitals. Of these, 27 have been admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 29 to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, 1 to Women’s Medical Hospital, 1 to Kanaighat Upazila Health Complex, 5 to Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital and 17 to Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital. Currently, 297 patients with suspected measles are undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the division.
Of these, 94 are being treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, 50 at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, 18 at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 13 at Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital and 12 at Habiganj District Sadar Hospital. In addition, 10 are being treated at Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, 8 at North East Medical Hospital, 4 at Parkview Medical Hospital, 4 at Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex, 2 at Mount Edora Hospital, 1 at Women’s Medical Hospital and 1 at Kanaighat Upazila Health Complex.
Health Department sources further said that no new deaths due to suspected measles have occurred in the last 24 hours. However, the total number of deaths due to suspected and confirmed measles in the department this year has reached 69.
Sylhet Divisional Director of the Health Department Dr. Mahbubul Alam said that 69 people have died so far due to measles symptoms and pneumonia. In the last 24 hours, 80 new patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to various hospitals. Currently, 297 patients are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals.
