Representative image. Three children have died after drowning in rainwater accumulated in a field in Pabna. The incident occurred on Friday (September 11) around 2:00 PM in Dashpara village, under the Nabinbazar area of Chartarapur Union in the upazila.
The three deceased children were Sumi Khatun (7), daughter of Shimul Mallik; and Khalid Hossain (8) and Afia Khatun (6), son and daughter of Ashraful Islam—all residents of Dashpara village. They were students at a local kindergarten.
Locals reported that on Friday afternoon, the children went to bathe in the accumulated rainwater in a field near their homes. One child initially sank into the water; while attempting to rescue that child, the other two also drowned one after another. Locals subsequently recovered them and rushed them toward the Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex. However, all three children died on the way to the hospital.
A pall of gloom descended on the area following the incident. The atmosphere became heavy with the wailing of the grieving relatives.
Tarikul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, stated that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the news.
