File photo. Rear Admiral Md. Mainul Hassan has assumed the role of Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

The handover ceremony took place on Thursday (September 10) at the force’s headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. He succeeded the outgoing Director General, Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Hoque. Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan later announced this information in a press release.

The release stated that Mainul Hassan joined the Navy in 1989 and was commissioned into the Executive Branch in 1992. He has undergone various significant training programs and pursued higher education both at home and abroad.

The Coast Guard noted that Rear Admiral Mainul held key positions at Naval Headquarters, including Director of Naval Planning, Director of Naval Aviation, and Naval Secretary. He also served as the Deputy Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Internationally, he served as a military observer for the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast. Additionally, he represented the Bangladesh Navy at various international military events, including AMAN, IMDEX, WPNS, Aero India, IONS, EFES (Turkey), and Euronaval (France).

In recognition of his professional contributions, he has been awarded the ‘Navy Medal’ (Noubahini Padak), ‘Distinguished Service Medal’ (Bishishta Seba Padak), and ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal’.

The press release expressed optimism that under the leadership of the newly appointed Director General, the Coast Guard’s capabilities would become more modern and technology-driven, while security operations across maritime boundaries, coastal areas, and waterways would gain further momentum.
