The measles outbreak in the Sylhet division has reached alarming proportions, while the dengue situation is also a cause for concern. The Divisional Health Office reports that a total of 1,044 measles cases have been confirmed in the region so far; district-wise, there are 376 cases in Sylhet and 357 in Sunamganj.

Additionally, there are 158 cases in Moulvibazar and 153 in Habiganj. Although no new confirmed cases were reported recently, 153 patients were admitted to hospitals within the last 24 hours with suspected measles, and one child died.

The deceased child, Mim Tahsin Nizam (5), passed away while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital; this brings the total death toll from confirmed and suspected measles in the division to 160. The breakdown of deaths is as follows: 65 in Sylhet, 59 in Sunamganj, 22 in Habiganj, and 14 in Moulvibazar. Currently, 499 measles patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the division, with the highest numbers admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital (194 patients) and Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital (149 patients).

Meanwhile, Dr. Md. Mahbubul Alam, the Divisional Director of Health for Sylhet, stated that the total number of dengue cases in the division has risen to 261 between January 1 and September 10 of this year, including 13 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The breakdown of infected individuals is: 115 in Habiganj, 59 in Sunamganj, 49 in Sylhet, 27 in Moulvibazar, and 11 from other districts. Two people have died from dengue in the division so far. Currently, 29 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, including Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
