Representative image. The police have set an exemplary standard in Jaintapur, Sylhet, through their operations to eradicate smuggling and drug trafficking. The results achieved in just two months are truly remarkable.
This unprecedented operation was conducted under the supervision of Mahbubur Rahman Molla, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station, following the directives of the Sylhet District Superintendent of Police. On-the-ground investigations have confirmed these facts.

Field inquiries reveal that since assuming his role at Jaintapur Model Police Station, OC Mahbubur Rahman Molla has been working tirelessly alongside his team to eliminate smuggling and drug-related activities.

As part of implementing the Government of Bangladesh’s directives to eradicate smuggling and drugs, he and his officers have successfully carried out these operations, overcoming numerous obstacles and challenges.

During the months of August and September, the police station successfully seized contraband and goods worth Tk 1,39,00,620 (one crore thirty-nine lakh six hundred twenty taka). The seizures included various illegal Indian goods, diverse types of narcotics, and motorcycles; additionally, smugglers and drug dealers were apprehended. A source within the Jaintapur Model Police Station confirmed this information during the investigation.

Meanwhile, an influential group of “vested interests” is actively trying to undermine the police station’s uncompromising leadership and halt these operations. Investigations have confirmed that a lobbying group is working covertly to spread propaganda against the police on social media. Certain so-called “fly-by-night extortionist” journalists are involved in this smear campaign. On-the-ground reports indicate that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is actively working to curb smuggling and drug trafficking in the Jaintapur border area. They are playing a responsible role in preventing human trafficking and unauthorized cross-border entries (push-ins). The Jaintapur Model Police Station is also taking a proactive stance on these issues.

When contacted via mobile phone regarding this matter, Mahbubur Rahman Molla, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station, told the reporter that a “zero-tolerance” policy is being enforced against smuggling, drug trafficking, and human traffickers. He stated that the police are firmly committed to preventing all forms of crime in Jaintapur Upazila and are operating with that objective in mind. He added that police operations against criminal activities would continue.

Responding to another question, he remarked that social media is a platform for the free expression of opinion; individuals are free to express their views there. He noted that the police’s duty is to ensure the safety of the public and their property while remaining vigilant against crime—a mandate he and his officers are actively fulfilling. Furthermore, they are conducting anti-crime operations in accordance with the directives of their superiors.
