Photo: Collected. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the United States will continue to target Iranian tankers. On Tuesday (September 8), he said that if Iran attacks or attempts to attack US Navy vessels, Tehran will lose more tankers in retaliation. Report by Al Arabiya.
Speaking to reporters, Rubio said, “Iran is repeatedly attempting to target US warships. Whenever they do so or attempt to do so, their tankers will be destroyed. You might see such action today as well.”
US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that on September 8, its forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers. CENTCOM claims that over the past two days, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a US warship with ballistic missiles in two separate incidents. The operation was carried out in response to these actions.
CENTCOM further stated that the US warship evaded the Iranian attacks and continued its patrol operations safely within regional waters. No US military personnel were injured or killed in these incidents.
These recent tit-for-tat actions have further escalated tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East. In particular, new concerns have arisen regarding the security situation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and surrounding maritime routes.
