Two cousins ​​died after coming into contact with a live power line while cutting grass for cattle in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. The incident occurred around 9:45 AM on Wednesday (September 30) in Kharuali village of the upazila.

The deceased are Md. Sahabuddin Akand (65), son of Ajid Akand, and Md. Dhanu Akand (60), son of Majid Akand; both were residents of Kharuali village and were cousins. Two separate committees have been formed by the Rural Electrification Board (Palli Bidyut) to investigate the matter, with reports expected within the next 48 hours.

According to local residents, Dhanu Akand went to a paddy field in the morning to cut grass for his cattle. While doing so, he became entangled in a snapped Palli Bidyut power line lying on the ground. When his cousin, Sahabuddin Akand, rushed to rescue him, he too was electrocuted. Locals later rescued them and took them to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared both of them dead.

Local teacher Md. Jannatul Islam Sohag stated that he had seen the snapped power line lying on the ground around 9:00 AM and had informed the Palli Bidyut office about it. However, he alleged that no immediate action was taken to remove the wire or cut off the power supply.

Bhaluka Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahidul Islam said that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving news of the two deaths by electrocution.

Nasir Uddin, General Manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2, stated that two separate committees—one from the Samity and another from the technical department—have been formed to investigate the incident. Reports are due within 48 hours. He added that if any negligence on the part of their office staff is found, action will be taken against them, describing the incident as deeply tragic.
