Srimangal (Moulvibazar) Representative //
In the name of rescuing a stolen CNG autorickshaw in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, some transport workers with the identity of leaders have been accused of embezzling money from a helpless woman.
Laili Begum (38), daughter of deceased Raja Mia of Sankarsena area of upazila, complained in a press conference at Srimangal Press Club on Monday afternoon that a CNG worth Tk 6 lakh was stolen from her installment on October 18 last year. He first told Salauddin Turki (50), son of Abruz Mia of Udnapar area of the upazila and general secretary of CNG upazila management committee. Then he told me that there is a gang of thieves who steal CNG, he can recover my CNG from them. In this way, he has rescued many stolen CNG from the gang of thieves to other owners. He stipulated that I should not file any complaint with the police about my stolen CNG. According to him, I refrained from making any complaint to the police. Salauddin Turki was also joined by Abdullah (52), son of Rajab Ali of Surma Veli area and owner of Abdullah Engineering Workshop, and Chairman of Habiganj Road CNG 2359 Group Management Committee Md. Qayyum Mia. They asked him to pay 5000 taka for car rental and tea and breakfast to the thieves as they had to go to Habiganj to meet the thieves. The next day they told me that my CNGT was found, but the thief gang demanded 3 lakh rupees. He paid two lakh eighty five thousand in cash to the mentioned persons on October 28 of last year as a loan and interest. Meanwhile, Salruddin Turki took the keys and documents of CNG from him. But till date they have not returned CNG and money.
He complains that he is not getting any remedy even though he complained to the police in several Shalish meetings and the police station. Meanwhile, he said that even after selling the house to pay the CNG installments and paying the interest, his debt is not ending.
In this regard, Paribah Labor leader Salahuddin Turki admitted that he took Tk 250,000 worth of CNG with his own hands, but he tried to deny responsibility saying that the gang of thieves stole the money and Laili Begum’s brother gave the money.
Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Srimangalur Police Station, said that he would inquire about the complaint and provide legal assistance. Laili Begum’s two maternal sisters, trainee lawyers Sufia Begum and Roshanra, were present at the press conference.
