Earlier this month, Bangladesh won the title by defeating India in the boys’ U-19 Asia Cup final. This time, Bangladesh has also reached the final of the girls’ U-19 Asia Cup. The red and green representatives booked their ticket to the final by defeating them by 9 wickets on Friday (December 20). Like the boys, the girls will also face India in the title-deciding match.
Bangladesh and Nepal girls faced each other in the final match of the Super Four of the Youth Asia Cup at the Baymas Oval in Kuala Lumpur today. The length of the match was reduced to 11 overs due to rain.
Bangladesh captain Sumaiya Akhtar won the toss and sent Nepal to bat. They were limited to a few runs due to the controlled bowling of the Bangladeshi bowlers and the ‘friendship’ with the Nepali girls’ run-outs.
Nepali women scored 54 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 11 overs, with four of the 8 wickets being run out, while Farzana Yasmin, Anisa Akhtar Soba, Fahmida and Habiba Islam bagging one wicket each for the remaining four wickets. The highest 11 runs came from the bat of Savitri Dhami for Nepal. Apart from that, none of them could reach double figures.
Chasing 55 runs, Bangladesh batted energetically from the start. The two openers Fahmida Choya and Eva added 46 runs in 7.2 overs in the opening partnership. Eva was out just 9 runs away from victory. Earlier, she scored 18 runs with a six off 21 balls.
Sumaiya Akhtar Subarna secured Bangladesh’s victory by scoring 10 runs off 6 balls with 2 fours. Opener Fahmida, who was kept at the other end from the start, remained unbeaten on 26 runs off 32 balls with 3 fours. As a result, Bangladesh secured victory in 9.5 overs. Kusum Godar took the only wicket for Nepal.
Earlier, the Indian women’s team defeated Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in their last match of the Super Four to secure the final of the Youth Asia Cup.
Bangladesh and India will face each other in the final of the Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup on Sunday (December 22) at 7:30 pm.
