After hundreds of speculations, the Sylhet District Press Club election will be held at nightfall. The exercise of this right to vote will begin tomorrow, Saturday morning. There is doubt again among senior and junior mainstream journalists. Moin, the former president and secretary, who led the panel formed during the Awami regime, are still lobbying hard in the field.

Several senior journalists, who did not want to be named, said that the former president and secretary have become the owners of mountains of property in a short time by showing the thumbs up to the panel group. They have built all these auxiliary properties illegally. They are trying to return to the field with their old face, avoiding the surveillance of intelligence agencies and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Once again, they are busy with the mission of making their ineligible candidates win the press club election.

The source further said that some of these so-called friends of the Awami League have organized a sham election system in the past as well. Currently, the Awami League friends are dreaming of building a house under the shadow of the panel group in their own self-defense. They created at least 40 voting members to strengthen themselves during their term. At that time, those who came to compete with them as honest and qualified candidates faced discrimination and empty ballot boxes. They used to strategically grab these votes by keeping the panel groups in hiding. After that, they themselves enjoyed all the privileges of the district press club. During the Awami regime, that snobbish syndicate group took the opportunity to visit the country and abroad. When any invitation/letter came from the high-level administration, they basically had the remote control in their hands. Many times, they would leave work even for phone calls.

The source again expressed a different opinion and said that this time the panel has shifted. Voters are trying to bring back a new environment. Although the panel godfathers are working in their previous roles, their record of irregularities and corruption has been exposed to the voters to some extent. They can choose clean candidates in this election. At this time, they said that the entire Sylhet District Press Club election system has been destroyed due to vendettas, divisions and group formation among the journalists. According to them, there is no alternative to this election to get out of this. In addition, everyone needs to come forward to expose the irregularities and corruption.

Meanwhile, on-site investigation has revealed that several news workers are facing cases. But for some unknown reason, the law enforcement agencies are not taking any appropriate legal action against them. This is also having a big impact on this election. Criminals posing as journalists are getting out of hand. Although the Yunus-led government came to power after the student-public uprising, it has been vocal against all these irregularities and corruption, but for mysterious reasons, these so-called journalists of the Sylhet District Press Club remain beyond the reach of the law.
