The Women’s T20 World Cup has moved away from Bangladesh. The decision was taken after the virtual board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday (August 20). Besides, it has been decided to organize this event in the United Arab Emirates. The Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 3.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been restricted by ICC until August 20. The letter asked whether Bangladesh has the capacity to host the World Cup after the fall of the government and whether the security measures are adequate. However, during this period, BCB board of directors did not see activities like that.

The anti-discrimination student movement brought down the government in Bangladesh. And because of this, stability has not come to the country so far. Even Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon and all the directors went into hiding. That’s why the activities of the board are not transparent. So some time ago, ICC wrote to BCB to know whether it is capable of organizing Women’s T20 World Cup and about the security situation. The BCB could not reply to that letter and was given a deadline of August 20. In the end, ICC decided not to host Bangladesh.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon not resigning and unable to form an interim board. Among them, the ICC started planning with India, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates as alternative venues. However, India has already rejected the ICC proposal. That is why Zimbabwe is showing increased interest. On the other hand, the ICC is on the path of not offering Sri Lanka any more because of the rainy season.

Bangladesh Interim Government Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Ahmed Sajib Bhuiyan, however, has said several times that the Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh. He said that necessary measures have been taken for that. At that time he said, “It will be very challenging for us. But it will be a great honor to be able to host this World Cup.

However, BCB and Bangladesh have made all-out preparations to host the Women’s T20 World Cup. It has already been confirmed that it will be played in Sylhet and Mirpur. This World Cup is scheduled to be held on October 3. But in view of the change in the government of Bangladesh, countries like India, England, Australia, New Zealand have banned their citizens from traveling to Bangladesh indefinitely as a security precaution. In the end, taking into consideration the overall situation in Bangladesh, the ICC has chosen the UAE to host the Women’s T20 World Cup, considering the great weather, perfect security and time compatibility with different countries.
