A New Year’s Eve attack has occurred in the United States. A truck was driven into a New Year’s Eve celebration in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. The death toll in the incident has risen to 15. The city’s doctor, Dwight McKenna, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

US media reported this news citing a statement from him. The doctor expressed his sincere condolences and said that 15 people have been killed so far in the incident. It will take a few days to complete the autopsy. He said that the identities of the deceased will be revealed after talking to the next of kin of the deceased.

A man drove a pickup truck into a crowd at 3 am on Wednesday. Several casualties occurred. Local media later reported that the driver also died, but no one gave the cause of his death. In the wake of this incident, the police and the FBI have launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry condemned the attack in a statement, urging residents to avoid the area. US President Joe Biden has spoken to the mayor of New Orleans and promised to provide assistance.

Local media reported that the suspected attacker was Shamsud-Deen Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas resident.

Two US officials said he had once served in the US military.
