A complaint of embezzlement of crores of Taka has been received against several people, including the General Secretary of Gopaya Noorani Jame Mosque and Market Committee of Habiganj Sadar Upazila and the General Secretary of Sadar Upazila Krishak League.

In this regard, the Joint General Secretary of the Committee and Md. Motakabbir Talukder Sastu of Gopaya village filed a complaint with the Sadar Model Police Station on January 7, accusing General Secretary Hossain Md. Akhtar (50), son of the late Abu Mia, Cashier Md. Abdul Majid Moti Mia (40), son of the late Abdul Matlib, and member Md. Zahur Ali (62), son of the late Sundar Ali of Batasar village, and unknown persons.

In the complaint, he mentioned that he has been performing his duties for the last 18 years. In this regard, in order to embezzle the money of the market and mosque committee, the former president, the late Alhaj Advocate Abdul Matin Khan, is running the institution in a fabricated manner by spreading influence and using party influence to hide the constitution written by him. He has embezzled without submitting any correct account (to the executive committee) for 18 years.

Md. Motakabbir Talukder Sastu pressured the local chairman and dignitaries to submit the account in this regard and repeatedly urged them to call a meeting of the executive committee. Under pressure, a fabricated annual report and accounts for 2 years without the voucher printed and signed by the general secretary were submitted to the association office.

The report and accounts for the past two years mention eighty thousand taka for expenses in the upazila on 12/05/2024, fourteen thousand five hundred taka for Khasi in the police station on 09/05/2024, three thousand taka for DC office on 07/05/2024, two thousand taka for field inspection on 06/05/2014, four thousand three hundred taka for expenses in the upazila office on 07/05/2023, ten thousand taka for Sadar police station on 15/05/2023, three thousand taka for AC Land office on 16/05/2023, two thousand seven hundred taka for DC office on 17/05/2023, seventy five thousand taka in the upazila fund on 20/05/2023, fifty thousand taka due to Abdul Malek on 30/11/2024, fifty thousand taka for cattle market to Selim. An account of two lakh one thousand taka is given. Which is completely fabricated, baseless and imaginary. However, it was mentioned in the missing constitution that in a critical moment, the president/secretary can spend 5,000 taka. The income of each day will be deposited in the joint account of the president/secretary in the name of the president/secretary the next day in the Grameen Bank Gopaya branch. In addition, every expense item in the mentioned report and account submitted by the 1st accused is fabricated and inconsistent.

In fact, the annual income of the said market and mosque committee is twelve lakh fifty thousand taka, twenty five lakh taka in two years and fifteen lakh taka was spent in those two years including the construction of the roof of the 2nd floor of the mosque. The general secretary and the embezzled ten lakh taka from the market and mosque. In such a situation, in the last 18 years, the 1st accused with the active cooperation of the other accused embezzled about one crore taka.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the police are investigating the incident. The administration is requested to intervene to take action in this regard.
